Bracelet | |
| As you can see
the bracelet on the left has been subjected to quite heavy wear (as we like
to say) and has lost nearly all of its natural shine and lustre. The bracelet on the right has had all the scratches and abrasions removed. Grime from between the links has been extracted and the natural polished sparkle has been returned and thus restored the watch to its former glory. |

Head | |
| Unless absolutely necessary we would always advise not attempting to remove small surface scratches from the back of your watch head when there are markings or serial numbers already there. This is because over a period of time the detail on the back plate can become worn down until it is hardly visible just by everyday wear. This is especially so in gold watches. Admittedly it does take about 10 years of constant wear but if you tamper with the back you will quicken this process. There is also the devaluing issue. Once markings are worn or removed there are always questions of its origin and authenticity and therefore could have an impact on the value of your watch. | ||

Preventative Measures | |
| In order to prevent ever scratching the back
of your watch always keep it in its box or wrapped in a piece of tissue
or cloth when not being worn. This prevents the clasp, buckle or surface
leaving a mark on the back. Do not wear any type of abrasive cufflinks with bracelet watches. This is due to the fact that in a very short space of time you will see an area on the reverse side of the strap that has collected a lot of scratches and abrasive marks, from constant rubbing throughout the day. Try to remember to take your watch off if working round the house, gardening or tinkering with the car in the driveway. These sorts of activities will not promote longevity for your valued timepiece. |

The Process | |
| All the scratches and marks are removed using a rubber carborundum wheel or by hand where necessary. We then use a very soft Scotchbrite abrasive wheel on the watch to create the satin effect it had when new. Once this has been done the watch is carefully taped with a non-heat conductive tape and polished with a fine cloth wheel with a compound. Finally the bracelet is placed in an ultrasonic tank to make sure no compound particles remain on the watch, it is then rinsed and ready to be reattached to the head. | ||
